Guidelines from Southwestern Public Health

  • Avoid large crowds or crowded areas
  • Practice physical distancing, maintaining 2 meters of distance from others.
  • On July 31, Southwestern Public Health issued a letter of instruction to require face coverings in all enclosed public spaces across Elgin County, Oxford County and in the City of St. Thomas. Business and organizations are instructed to develop two policies related to this. Learn more: www.swpublichealth.ca/facecoverings.
  • Wash your hands often with soap under warm running water for at least 20 seconds
    • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer (containing 60% alcohol) if soap and water are not available and always keep some with you when you travel
  • Practise proper cough and sneeze etiquette: avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Anyone concerned that they may have been exposed to or are experiencing symptoms of the novel coronavirus should take the self-assessment and follow the directions. If the self-assessment indicates that you should be tested, review the list of assessment centres here.
  • Avoid contact with sick people, especially if they have a cough, fever or difficulty breathing
  • Be aware of the local situation and follow local public health advice
  • For non-emergency situations and additional questions, please contact the Southwestern Public Health call centre, 1-800-922-0096 ext. 9
  • Only call 911 for emergency situations and call 8-1-1, or for 7-1-1 for the deaf or hard of hearing
